Edmonton, AB – Terrapin Geothermics (Terrapin) and Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to pursue collaboration opportunities in Alberta’s rapidly developing new energy industries. Providing growth opportunities for trades, this partnership will help match skills, advance economic development, and support continued energy market diversification in northern Alberta.
“Terrapin is excited to enter into this partnership with GPRC,” says Terrapin’s VP of Operations, Marc Colombina. "We believe that working with world-class training and educational institutions is the best way to develop the skill sets needed to support the growth of new, innovative industries.”
Under this partnership, Terrapin and GPRC are working to provide enhanced career opportunities, skills education, and experiential learning for students, faculty, and practitioners in the Grande Prairie region. Integrating expertise with adaptability, GPRC is well-positioned to deliver relevant programming and prepare highly skilled tradespeople for the workforce. Through Terrapin’s suite of regional energy projects, Terrapin can facilitate the hands-on application of skills in innovative energy industries such as industrial waste heat recovery and conventional geothermal.
“This partnership with Terrapin is exciting for GPRC, our students, and northern Alberta,” says Dr. Robert Murray, President and CEO of Grande Prairie Regional College. “It brings students together with meaningful experiential learning opportunities, equips highly trained graduates with the skills they need to compete in a rapidly changing labour market, enhances research and innovation capacity in clean energy, and strengthens economic growth in the region. Working with Terrapin is another example of how GPRC continues to build strong linkages with industry to create jobs for Albertans and advance the diversification of the economy.”
